CELEBRATING THE MASTER OF SUSPENSE

The Michigan Theater is an art house movie palace (a.k.a, theater) based in Ann Arbor Michigan. In addition to
film and live events, the theater's programming staff curate film series which run from one to several months. These
series aim to celebrate independent, cult and classic movies and the auteurs who produce them. This
was one of the
film series I had the pleasure of helping brand and promote.

THE PROCESS

Mailer projects at the Michigan Theater typically consist of a folded, letter sized mailer and a series trailer. I presented the following
concepts to my creative team, keeping in mind the various types of collateral that the branding would need to be used consistently
across, from newspaper ads, to monthly updates in newsletters, or onscreen materials.

The trailer was a lot of fun to create, using posters for Hitchcock's films, and high resolution photographs of the leading ladies and men of Hitchcock's classic films. I cut the trailer using After Effects for some of the slightly more complex motion graphic elements, and Adobe Premiere to add in titles, trim the music, and edit.

I chose a contemporary, upbeat song (Justin Warfields's remix of "Settle Down" by Kimbra) to cut to in order to keep the vibe fresh and exciting for a modern audience, and paired it with the existing vintage elements of 40s & 50s era poster art, and Criterion Collection-esque color overlays to complement HItchcock's equally vibrant and gripping catalogue of work.
